Welcome to SL Barrel Horses

Hi everyone and welcome to Around SL Barrel Horses!200

I would like to invite you to follow me on my journey of training horses and teaching students all about horses and barrel racing. I will be sharing the process of training and hauling a 4 year prospect, conditioning and tuning up a seasoned horse, training tips and teaching some amazing girls about barrels and gymkhana.

SL Barrel Horses was started in the fall of 2009 after a not so good summer working for another horse trainer, that left me feeling like I needed a change and wanted out of horses. However, thanks to my dad not letting that happen and some time back to working for my mentor, I decided to start training horses on my own. I have 5 horses (6 if you count my dad’s mustang), 3 are the main horses in the training process. Rocket is a 22 year old TB, who is my solid go-to guy, Polly is a 3 year QH that will finally be started this fall and Dori is my 4 year prospect who will finally be hauled to races this winter.

When I started SL Barrel Horses and purchased my fillies, I also decided that I wanted to share my passion for barrel racing with the youth of our industry, so my lesson program is geared toward young people, but I love helping adults too. The very first student I starting teaching as the instructor of SLBH, is a lovely lady who had lost her confidence and trust in her horse and just wanted to enjoy riding her horse again. We are getting there. My first SLBH youth student is a great 12 year old girl and her first horse wanting to improve her gymkhana runs and over all horsemanship.

It is going to be a fun and rewarding journey! Please feel free to share ideas regarding training tips and posts you would like to see!
